Always Play With Your Food

Salvador Dali and I contemplate
my snack for the day.
I like to play with my food. I have a very poor sense of smell, but my sense of taste is incredibly sensitive. I enjoy mixing tastes and textures. I really appreciate it when my food looks pretty - the more color, the better. I'm often curious about what some of my favorite people enjoy eating. We know that Oprah is obsessed with potato chips. Do any of you recall that President George W. Bush doesn't like broccoli? What about the icons of our past? What were Roy Orbison, James Dean, or Galileo's favorite foods? What was junk food in Galileo's day? I imagine a crispy olive stuffed with pork. Yes, I just made that up while I was having a chat with Salvador Dali. He's a genius that way, you know...

Ultimately, my secret to a fantastic meal is to eat dessert first. I cannot accept the idea that one should "sensibly" eat what is supposed to be eaten with the reward of dessert at the end. What if I choke on the spinach (which I really like, by the way) during dinner and never make it to dessert?! I would be royally upset. (Dali agrees.)

Salvador Dali graciously models the
Greek yogurt with seasonal berries.
So, in an effort to be proactive about my desire to always be happy and grateful for my meals, I always enjoy the sweet things in life FIRST! Speaking of sweet, one of my idols, Salvador Dali is making the presentation of today's snack. A sure-fit healthy and fun snack that will satisfy your sweet tooth, provide protein, and looks pretty is Greek yogurt and fruit. I enjoy a 2% Greek yogurt with whatever fruit are in season. Dali is handsomely strutting his stuff with blackberries and blueberries, both of which have been sweet and plentiful this season. Sometimes if I'm looking for a little crunch or surprise I add trail mix, roasted almonds, or fresh figs.

Playing with your food doesn't always mean you have to get dirty, you know. It could mean that you expand your imagination and try something that one of your five senses finds interesting. Today's snack is just the kind of food playground I like. Enjoy!
